Project Description

The mural is located on Great Suffolk St, London SE1 0NS. I researched the history of the Southwark area and the railway viaducts which pass over the mural’s location. The viaduct used to be home to continental goods yard in the 1900s called the ‘Grand Vitesse Goods Yard’.

I incorporated the ‘Low Line’ plaque in situ under the viaduct using the vanishing point of the train. The Low Line initiative is aimed at opening up the viaducts to pedestrians and encouraging exploration of the historical areas within Southwark.

My design was inspired by the art deco-style rail posters from the 1900s. The train is based upon the Wainwright C Class Steam Train. Which may have been used to carry goods around the same time.
